Freight Terms

Most of these are called Assessorial Charges. They are extra charges added to the base freight charge.

 

Home Delivery : The carrier will deliver the item you are shipping directly to your home. This is a curb to curb service, which means they will deliver it to the curb. You must haul it into your home.

Residential Delivery : The carrier will deliver the item you are shipping directly to your home. This is a curb to curb service, which means they will deliver it to the curb. You must haul it into your home.

Home Pickup : The carrier will pickup the item you are shipping directly from your home. This is a curb to curb service, which means they will pick it up at the curb. You must haul it down to the curb.

Residential Pickup :  The carrier will pickup the item you are shipping directly from your home. This is a curb to curb service, which means they will pick it up at the curb. You must haul it down to the curb.

Bill of Lading: This is a contract that the shipper must fill out and provide to the carrier. Note: Payless Freight performs this task for its customers. This contract contains all shipping information necessary for the carrier to pickup and deliver the item or items.

Liftgate A lifting device that is attached to the back of the truck used to lift heavy items.

Inside Pickup: Pick up of shipment beyond the front door of customer’s home or facility.

Inside Delivery: Delivery of shipment beyond the front door of customer’s home or facility.

Limited Access Service: Allpies to commercial locations not open to the walk-in public. Examples are camps, carnivals, churches, colleges, construction sites, fairs, mini storage, prisons, schools, etc.

Saturday Pickup: Applies to pickup on a Saturday.

Saturday Delivery: Applies to delivery on a Saturday.

Shipment Storage: Storage of a shipment when a delivery cannot be accomplished or at customer’s request.

Reweigh: If shipment charges increase by $15 or more as a result of reweighing a shipment.

NMFC: is a number used to identify what is being shipped.

Freight Class: A classification system used to price shipments.
